Extension activities

 

The impact of the extension activities of the Institution in sensitizing the learners and other stakeholders to social and sustainable development issues leading to inclusive society over the last five years

Response:

 

BAOU has established and Extension Activities Cell – This cell is established for various extension activities in urban and rural belts of Gujarat; The Cell undertakes number of extension activities, especially for creating awareness about social and sustainable development issues leading to inclusive society through propagating national campaigns and policies and comprehensive development of the selected rural areas and community groups.

 

University has also adopted a number of neighboring villages from Headquarter, Regional Centre and Learner Support Centres all across Gujarat and for the learners participation conducted the following programmes:

         Swachh Bharat Abhiyan, Swachh Pakhwada,

         Plantation Programmes, AIDS Awareness Programmes,

         World Population day, World Water Conservation Day,

         International Mother tongue day, World Yoga Day,

         Special Programmes Related to Health and Hygiene,

          International Women’s day, Plastic & Smoke free campus.

 

       With efforts from extension cell, Department of Social Justice and Welfare, Government of Gujarat, financially sponsors higher education of transgender who shall pursue Master Degree, Bachelor Degree and Bachelor’s Preparatory Programme from Dr. Babasaheb Ambedkar Open University.

       University financially sponsors higher education of the wives and children of Indian Army martyrs by exempting their fees for any of the courses of the University.

       As part of Social Responsibility of University, faculty members and staff members reached out to the women working in Arvind Mills and ONGC, BSF and CRPF Army, Police personnel, Defense personnel, Jail-inmates, Slum areas and remote areas of Gujarat, to educate them regarding the essentiality of education and motivate them to pursue higher education from the only Open University of the state, established by Government of Gujarat.

       To spread awareness of the initiatives undertaken by the Ahmedabad City Police to protect and help women, a program was organized jointly by Women Development Cell and Extension Cell at University. “She Team” is a women empowerment initiative, a project by Ahmedabad City Police to help women in need; through an online application “181 Abhayam Women’s Helpline”.

       An activity related-to women's health awareness and health check-ups is being organized every year, the said activity is sponsored by the University for their female employees.

       Each employee of the University has contributed a salary of one day to the Chief Minister’s Relief Fund for COVID19; and other such cases as and when the situation arose.

       During Covid-19 crisis Hon’ble Vice Chancellor distributed grocery kits to Class-IV employees, peons, sweepers, security staff, etc.

       University encouraged the Learner Support Centres, Learners and Faculty/Counselors to download the “Ayush Sanjivani” mobile application for understanding the measures adopted by the public for enhancing immunity and keeping themselves healthy in the difficult COVID-2019 situation.

       The University along with ‘The Green Dreams’ Team planted 5000+ green saplings on ‘World Environment Day’ at various Learner Support Centres. Learners   across the state of Gujarat were inspired to participate in ‘tree plantation’ activity.

       With an aim to promote awareness regarding hygiene and cleanliness a ‘Cleanliness Drive’ was organized between 16th January 2020 to 31st January 2020, every member of the University, including Professors, students, along with Hon’ble Vice Chancellor, enthusiastically contributed to this drive. Various activities and competitions comprising oath-taking, tree plantation, campus cleanliness, slogan writing, power-point presentation, extempore, film-watching, poster-making, discussion, rally, and more were organized. The event on the last day concluded with prize distribution and an enhanced awareness of environment preservation.
